What’s the future for recycling

Introduction : Advances in the processing of paper, plastic and metal are causing major developments in environmental sustainability and these innovation techniques improve social value. 1 huge priority for the government is developing more efficient recycling technologies, and to increase sustainability.

Major developments are being made in the field of paper and plastic, and when it comes to aluminum even the foil used in laminate packaging will soon be recyclable. Apart from that as we all know we are heading more towards the digital age, which means our home and life will be surrounded by digital products and equipment. So it means heading into the future our consumption of digital technology would mean we would need to develop greater capacity for recycling our everyday electronic devices such as the smartphones, laptops and batteries which power our devices.

Climate change and the impact in recycling : As the threat of climate change increases, understanding reduce, reuse and recycle circular economy will be the fundamental building block in moving economies towards a sustainable future. Normalizing the circular economy the 3 R’s of reducing our consumption of items, reusing the items we consume and recycling the raw materials in those items will go a long way to reducing greenhouse gas emission.

Industries with the biggest opportunities and challenges

Food : production of food and food waste is both a challenge and an opportunity. While decomposing food and carbon footprints from wastage contributes huge greenhouse gas emissions which need to be reduced, there is also energy potentials from all the rotting food.

Manufacturing : Manufacturing has multiplied unimaginably from the days of the industrial revolution to now and with the invention of plastics has led to all kinds of pollution problems, including 12 million tons of plastic flowing into our oceans each year. According to a study only 9% of plastic is recycled globally. But some advancements and changes in the recycling method of manufacturing could shape things up exponentially.

Fashion : A shocking 3 quarters of all textile waste is incinerated or sent to landfill. It comes as a huge shock but the fact is that in order to just make one t-shirt, it takes about 2700 liters of water to produce it. Using some innovative and out of the box techniques can truly help in shaping the fashion industry into a more sustainable industry.

Technology : According to the International Labor Organization each year close to 50 million tonnes of electronic and electric waste (E waste ) are discarded – the weight of more than all commercial airlines ever made. According to the organization and its data, the estimated worth of the material is around 62.5 billion dollars. Now that is more than the GDP of some countries. Only 20% of E waste is recycled and instead millions of men and women work to collect, repair, refurbish, dismantle, recycle and dispose of E waste, much of it done in working conditions which is harmful to both environment and society.

Conclusion : As we know, recycling is a booming industry which with the help of recent technologies and development in the field, will only grow. With new innovations, investments and approaches, there is a world of opportunity for the recycling industry to really transform. And Endeavor recyclers who are pioneers in the world of recycling industry have been progressing themselves to contribute to the environment as much as they can.
