The E-Waste (Management & Handling) Rules of 2011 were officially announced in May 2011, and they were scheduled to take effect from May 1, 2012. These rules were made public well in advance to provide ample time for all relevant stakeholders to prepare themselves and establish the necessary infrastructure for the successful implementation of these regulations.

Central Pollution Control Board Guidelines
After consulting with various stakeholders, the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MOEF) and the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) recognized the need to create a guidance document for the proper execution of the provisions outlined in the E-Waste (Management & Handling) Rules of 2016. This document aims to assist Producers, Consumers, Bulk Consumers, Collection Centers, Dismantlers, Recyclers, and Regulatory agencies (State Pollution Control Boards/Pollution Control Committees) in effectively complying with and implementing these rules. This document also offers guidance on establishing collection mechanisms, carrying out dismantling and recycling operations. The E-Waste Rules primarily place the responsibility for managing electronic waste on the producers of electrical and electronic equipment through the introduction of the concept of "extended producer responsibility" (EPR), and these guidelines discuss the scope of implementing such EPRs.

OHSAS 18001 certification guarantees that companies adhere to legal and regulatory health and safety requirements worldwide.
Furthermore, recyclers must maintain the following valid registrations under the State Pollution Board:
